Intro Week

If you're reading this you've been invited to the thoughts and learnings of Courtney while taking B183 at BYU-Idaho. This class focuses on the entrepreneurial journey and is a core business requirement toward my bachelor's degree. This blog will record impressions and learnings I have throughout the semester from our weekly lessons.

In a video we watched this week Guy Kawasaki gave advice to students at Stanford University. He mentions in his talk to them that people shouldn't start a business or decide a major based on what is hot or what is most profitable. Study and learn and go into what you really truly love. Don't be focused on the money. By following what you love you may not be the wealthiest, or you might, but assuredly you will be happy and feel fulfilled.

There was a talk from Elder David A. Bednar in this week's learnings that had a fantastic quote that sums up how I feel about gaining an education. It reads, "You know, it is a wonderful thing to be faithful, but a much greater thing to be both faithful and competent.  There is no particular virtue in being uninformed, certainly no virtue in ignorance.  When young people can acquire the skills, the techniques, and the knowledge of these times, and along with it have a spiritual commitment and a solid faith and cleanliness of life, there is nothing that you can’t achieve; nothing in righteousness or in reason."

Being an entrepreneur is not easy. Being a student is not easy. Both are worthwhile and are fulfilling if you're willing to put in the work toward something you love.
